the Balm AutoBalm California Face Palette For Fall

I’m a huge fan of the Balm makeup palettes and I love to keep a collection from this line. I have been very impressed with the quality and amazing pigmentation but this face palette seems to fall under my expectation. Continue reading if you want to know more …

The Balm Autobalm California Face Palette is a $15.00 face palettes that are available now at Kohl’s website, Amazon for $18.00, ASOS and ebay.

Let’s take a look!

the balm palette

This AutoBalm Face Palette by theBalm consists of a Blush, Highlighter, Brow and Liner. It comes in a cardboard material with an invisible magnet closure. it’s rather cute as a pick up for quickie looks!

It has a nice variety of multitasking products in a sleek packaging that can come in handy for touch ups or if you’re in a hurry and not wanting to spend too much on makeup.

Colors picked up directly from the pan. Not too bad but I expected a better from theBalm after having a good collection of the products. The texture is smooth but they feels powdery to touch.

Another downside I noticed was, it lacks staying power. Personally, once I’m done with my makeup, I leave it as it is but this palette requires me to touch up which I don’t usually do. So, I’m not a big fan of this palette.

Now, let’s take a look at the color swatches. A decent “meh”, it just doesn’t wow me as much like other palettes do.

The Blush/Shadow – it’s peachy-pink tone with enough pigmentation but nothing amazing.

The Highlighter/Shadow– I’m sad to say this is a powdery boring shade and not a highlighter whatsoever, since the shimmer disappears on the skin once you apply it. I’m in an “Epic shocker” state! Gahhhh!!!

The Brow/Crease Shadow – this is great to use as a transition color on the lid and crease. As a brow product? Not so much. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to spend ten minutes doing my brows and this fades away while blending. Remember this is a powdery shadow. I’m not so crazy about this.

The Lid/Liner Shadow – it came up a little patchy on the swatch but I think it’s a cool alternative to black liner. I personally prefer to wear it on the lids than as an eyeliner. It’s not dark enough as an eyeliner but to each their own preference.

Overall, I think you can make a good use of this palette and create beautiful looks with it, but compared to larger palettes from the brand like the Nude’tude or Meet Matte (review here), these colors lack pigmentation. I repeat, I wasn’t very impressed with this palette. I feel that the formula was too powdery and lack of pigmentation is the biggest issue here.

On a positive note, I find that they’re easy to blend.

You can see that theBalm has definitely changed the makeup packaging game with their incredible designs, so if you want to get it just because it’s cute and pretty then go ahead, but grab it on sale because it doesn’t worth the whole price ($18.00) in my opinion. This is solely my opinion after trying this California Face Palette. It’s not a terrible palette but I would have expected better than this.

Last but not least, I want to point out that all the products from theBalm palette is paraben-free and not tested on animals. So, yay!

    1. Yeah, from your perspective I can totally see why it was a miss, but I think it would be the PERFECT travel palette because I would pretty much be exclusively using it for eye shadow. Honestly, I feel most of my Balm shadows wear off pretty fast without primer so if you have some laying around try it out you might be more impressed! Here is how I would use the palette, let me know if you try it: The blush would be my transition shade just above the crease. I would use the crease shade ONLY in the crease and not for the brows. I would use the lid shade only in the outer V for more definition, and then I would use the highlight on my lid and under my brow-bone (I actually love that the shimmer disappears as bad as that sounds… matte shadows are my life, hehe).

  1. Although the price was right, I agree that it appears a bit disappointing. I too usually expect better from theBalm. I couldn’t use the brow color, and I prefer the cream blush palette that I have from theBalm. But I’m always curious to see what the brand has that’s new. Thanks for taking one for the team!

    1. Awe thank you Amanda for your comment. Glad to know you like the colors too.I may have set too high expectation from this palette.I’m a big fan of theBalm but this one lack pigmentaion.

  2. I’m usually a fan of products from the Balm, sorry this one didn’t live up to the standards we’re familiar with from their company. Their packaging is always a bonus though.
