Welcome back to Babes in Blogland Collaboration Day 15. Today’s theme is about Christmas Recipes and I have put posts linking to Hello Kaily, Curly Spring Blossom and Stash Matters, for you to check their posts. With holidays SO CLOSE, this is a very important topic for me and I’m so happy to be here with all of you.
In this post, instead of talking about Christmas recipe that many of you already have the recipes handed down from generations. I’ll be sharing a recipe that only a handful would appreciate. Yes, I’m referring to FRUITCAKE!
Fruitcake Is Worst Holiday Gift to Receive according to SURVEY!
“The worst Christmas gift is fruitcake,” cracked Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. “There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other, year after year.” it seems that it’s still under circulation back since Roman’s time. lol!
You either love fruitcake or you hate it.
Some of you may raise the question, “Does anyone really eat fruitcake? Well, the answer to that question is less than one-third of the people surveyed admit to eating it, except in the South. It seems Southerners are a bit fonder of fruitcake. And, “If you don’t like it, use it as a doorstop”, toss it, give it away or feed to the birds in spring.
I personally like fruit cake during the holiday.A tradition to have a fruit cake somehow. Strangely enough, I’ve never received fruit cake as a gift which is good in a way since I prefer to buy them from the store or make my own with extra rum on it. At least I know it comes straight from the bakery store, hahaha!
So, for those of you who truly enjoy this traditional Christmas treat, I hope you’ll try this recipe for a delicious and fruity FRUIT CAKE and STOUT. You can replace stout to rum of your choice. Click the link here for Martha Stewart ‘s recipe. The bottom square block in the picture it is.
And for those of you who hate fruitcake, sit back, have a double shot of eggnog, or vodka and hope Aunt Millie doesn’t give you another doorstop this year.
So, who wants to receive a fruit cake as a Holiday gift this year? If you do, check carefully for you never know, you might received one stale fruit cake back in Roman’s time. ;D
Remember ’tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la… la la la la!

Haha that’s funny what Johnny Carson said – it’s probably half true!
I like fruitcake too! But in small doses… I can’t eat too much since it’s so dense and sweet! It’s great with tea though. 🙂
We never receive any though…

Neither do I! Hahaha! I did some google research and survey shows a good percentage of people hate to receive fruitcake as a gift. I eat the fruitcake in moderation too since I’m not too much of a sweet tooth girl. Agreed – fruitcake + tea = victorian style. 😀

I don’t like fruitcake, but my parents make one that is the least gross fruitcake that I’ve ever tasted (it could be the fact that my dad soaks the fruit in rum overnight).

Fruitcake in rum is tasty. Not too sweet and home made fruitcake always taste better in my opinion. Involves love and best ingredients when making 🙂

Is the common aversion to fruitcake, often portrayed in media real? An aunt of mine makes them every year for us and we love it! I love fruitcake!

I read surveys on the fruitcake during the holidays and a huge percentage of people hated to get it in their holiday gift. I love fruitcake too in moderation since I’m not so much of a sweet tooth person but eating it with tea as Stashy mention in her comment would be awesome. Thanks for your comment.

I hate fruit cake !!! The last time I somehow “enjoy” it was at a friend house covered with a ton of caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream 😛

I read in a survey that it’s not surprising some hated fruit cake. They toss it, feed it to the birds, re-give as a gift, door stopper or hide it in the cabinet lol! I like the original fruit cake with rum in it.Caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream on fruit cake, I haven’t tried that, could be too sweet for me xo

OMG, you’re too funny! “And for those of you who hate fruitcake, sit back, have a double shot of eggnog, or vodka and hope Aunt Millie doesn’t give you another doorstop this year.” Hahahaha! I happen to love fruitcake but I’ve never made one myself so thank you for the recipe, Sharon!
