Best Drugstore Palettes – Oldies but Goodies

Hey everybody! Today’s post I’m going to talk about my all time favorite drugstore palettes. As much as I love to talk about new product releases, I want to share with you some of my oldies but goodies favorites here.

Favorite Drugstore Palettes

In this post, I’ll be talking about the best drugstore eyeshadow palettes that I’ve been loving over the past and till this date. As you may notice on the title of this post, you’ll also find some wear and tear from these palettes. All color swatches shown below are without primer and is swiped on bare arms using only my fingers.

Let’s get started!

Milani Palette

First up is the Milani Everyday Eyes Palettes that I fell head over heels over with. As soon as I saw a beauty YouTuber talks about the new launch many moons ago, I started my quest to hunt it down. Soon enough, I found it at Walmart a week later and the rest is history. I’ve been loving this palette ever since. It’s a gorgeous palette! I really like that it has a bright orange shadow that will be perfect for summer wear. While the rest of the neutral colors you can wear them on your no- makeup makeup day.

Milani swatches

If you haven’t tried this yet, I’m telling you to run to your nearest drugstore or Walmart and grab one today. For the price and quality, it’s drugstore thumb’s up from me! By the way, did I mentioned that it’s also cruelty free! Thought you might want to know.

elf palette

I’m a fan of e.l.f products and when I saw they launched their eyeshadow palette, I was in cloud nine. It’s rare to find all matte eyeshadows from a drugstore brand but e.l.f sure nails it with the e.l.f. Mad for Matte Palette that houses 10 eyeshadow shades.

elf swatches

Nicely pigmented shadows that’s easily blendable and natural looking but you still need an eyeshadow base or primer if you’re looking for a bold and intense matte finishing then look no further. Here’s something you would love for beginners.

WNW palette

Next in my list of favorite is another Wet n Wild Au Naturel Eyeshadow Palette. If you love natural eyeshadow palette with a hint of plum shadows, then you’re going to like this.

wnw swatches

I really have nothing bad to say about the pigmentation as you can see them for yourself. You get a nice color selections of shimmer and matte shadows all in one palette. If it’s calling your name, then do yourself a favor and pick up one today.

cover girl palette
US$9.98 at Walmart

When it comes to Covergirl Eyeshadows Palette, I don’t have much luck with this brand. It’s either a hit or miss. But when I saw their new launch of Covergirl TruNaked Palette at my local drugstore – I was completely sucked in.

cover girl swatches

To be honest, I don’t put much expectation on this based on past history but I was totally taken a back when I did the color swatch. Turns out, the formula is super pigmented, smooth and soft! All the shades are so versatile that you’ll want to wear them everyday. Definitely give this palette a try!

wnw comfort zone palette

I save the best for last and it’s the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette. It’s not a new release but rather an old palette that keeps me going back to wear it after all these years. The pigmentation is mind blowing. Super pigmented!!! Love that Wet n Wild products are not tested on animals and if you’re environmentally concern then you’re going to love this. I swear by it! Get yours NOW!

wnw comfort swatches

How gorgeous is it! Incredibly pigmented formula with the best affordable pricing only available at Walmart or your local drugstores. It’s definitely a winner in my book!

Well there you have it! My favorite drugstore eyeshadow palettes! Which is your favorite palette of them all?

This concludes my Best Drugstore Palette – Oldies but Goodies segment for this month and I hope to do a few more series of the same nature. Let me know what you think or if there’s any products you want me to feature them here on my blog. I love to hear what you think.

It’s Mountain Calling !

It’s almost winter here in Canada with Christmas just around the corner and that means it’s the perfect time of the year to go out and shop for yourself and your loved ones. I love to go to the malls and or drugstores to look for some new Holiday collection or any special deals. We all love to do that..don’t we ?

And..Pharmaprix is one of my favorite drugstores to get my hands on some cool stuff. I start my Christmas shopping quite early and I still have some I didn’t cross out yet. I was just checking on my usual obsession “Eyeshadow Palettes” when I saw this Mountain Calling Eyeshadow Palette by Essence.

I could not resist myself from buying it because, a) It was a limited edition palette which is only for winter b)It was for only $4.99 and for 6 eyeshadows. Awesome !! Right?

The packaging is what gravitates me in the first place. The ski lodge and the ski mountain design reminds me of the coming ski season. Oh! how adorable the packaging is. It comes in a cardboard material with a magnetic closure with a pop out ski lodge. How cool is that!

Texture wise, I really love it. It feels creamy, pigmented, smooth with amazing color payoff. Six satiny eyeshadow shades in shimmer:

Right to left:  pearl, soft beige, light brown, forest green, winter blue, and charcoal grey. Includes  sponge eyeshadow applicator.

The verdict- Essence Mountain Calling Palette is an affordable palette which is ideal for creating subtle and defined eye looks. The wintery shades will cater almost all the skin-tones viz fair, medium and dark. I’ve other color shadows that works beautifully when mixed together.

The above swatches are on bare skin with just one line swipe, picked up directly with my fingers from the pan. Look how so pretty the pigmentation and texture. I’m falling head over heels for this.

These are non-chalky, decently pigmented, non-irritant, blend-able, silky smooth and last for 4+ hours on primed lids without creasing. Lighter shades need layering to show up but these are workable. You can use this palette on its own as well as with other shimmery colors to create a plethora of eye makeup looks.

This is 100% recommended. For $4.99 I say go for it girl. Totally worth trying it OUT. This one is a winner in my book. Don’t walk, run to your nearest drugstores for this great value palette. What are you waiting for … Mountain Calling!

Have you seen this limited edition palette by Essence? If yes what do you think of it? I would love to hear your comments.

QUO Smokey Eyes Eyeshadow Palette

First of all let me say, I absolutely love the QUO Eyeshadow Palettes. So much that I’ve been considering what other eye makeup looks I have tried that I can use this palette with. As you can tell if you’ve been following my blog post, eyeshadow is my territory (I don’t mean to brag!). I’m an eyeshadow junkie! Throw in a matte and I am totally sold.:D

I like the black paper envelope to keep the palette from scratches and fingerprint smudges. The picture is gorgeous and so is the thin metal palette inside. The size is perfect for travel, does not take up much space at all.

Behind this paper envelope you will find a list of the color shadows.

I love this sleek metal case packaging and I feel that these overall are great matte eyeshadows. I would boast them as an amazing palette. Correct me if I’m wrong! I think everyone is a little tired of the cardboard packaging, so to have the brand step it up and give us some luxury, was a very welcomed change! There is a lot of newness that make me super excited, so let’s jump right in!

Quo Smokey Eyeshadow Palette is available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $25.00 with net wt: 8 x 1.4g or at Pharmaprix (SDM is the name in Quebec)

Inside the palette are 8 matte eyeshadows pan that can make your hearts melt. There is a full size mirror on the lid and two double ended sponge applicators. I love the layout of  these color selections from light, midtone to dark shades.

This is a predominantly light palette, with only a few darker shades. It has a mix of mostly pink and brown in this palette.

Look at these colors! I’m in serious love here.

Quo matte eyeshadow palette

I just wanted to point it out that Quo eyeshadows are excellent quality for their price (which is a bit higher than other drugstore brands). But if you just feel the texture, the powder was so finely milled, it literally feels smooth to the touch. And they feel very soft and smooth on the eyes.

They have great staying power and don’t crease on the lid. I like the texture, blendability, and feel is right up my alley.

My only complaint is that when swatching this palette, I wasn’t overly impressed at the bare skin results as shown below. This palette definitely needs primer, particularly for these matte shades. And that black is just sad, which makes me sad since I know QUO can do a great black shadow.

Anyways, I tried them on the crease over the eye base and I’m pleased with the performance (the smokey eye makeup look would be available on my facebook and twitter posts). Don’t forget to connect!

All in all, this matte beauty met my expectation of a smokey palette. If neutral matte are your colour, definitely check it out next time Quo products are on sale 🙂 I recommend waiting for these to go on sale, as they periodically do. They’re well worth a try. Another drawback is that you can only get them at Shoppers!!!

What have you guys pick up lately for your Holiday Giveaway ? Don’t forget to leave your comments down below.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read.

Mariposa Metallic Chic Eyeshadow Palette – Review

mariposa metallic eyeshadow

Hey Beauties! It’s weekend and let’s talk about eyeshadow. Honestly, I was not sure what to expect considering this was my first Mariposa Eyeshadow Palette purchase. Interested to read past post for full review of Dollar Store Haul, click the link here. I’ve tried their blushes and falsies and like them alot so I’m curious to put my fingers for a color swatch.

I’m an eyeshadow junkie and have probably bought more than 25 palettes this year alone. Having said that, I have a good base for comparison. I’m impressed with the pigmentation or color payoff. A little goes a long way.

This palette is very pretty by Mariposa!! The colors are very vibrant well pigmented. Very soft pigments! Smooth application. I love that they threw in a few nudes, warm tones, purples, blues and highlighters. It’s a good palette and easily one of the most affordable for those who are new to makeup or those who likes to play with shadows for the holiday seasons.

The quality of this palette is on point with full size shadows for the price at least. You get a lot of product for the money with this palette. The packaging is sturdy cardboard with two sponge tip applicators but there is no mirror on the lid. It comes in a clear plastic lid and I like this packaging design since you can see the eyeshadows right away. That’s brilliant!

Here’s a closer look of the palette.

Mariposa’s powder eyeshadows are really good, particularly the satin ones, and they seem to last longer on me without creasing. You get 12 of them in the giant palette which is a real steal. On hindsight, it looks quite close to the packaging of L’Oreal La Palette Nude Eyeshadow.

Brighter shadows – just as glammy!

Warmer shadows – look how pretty these shadows are!

Shadows picked up directly from the pan. Really like the pigmentations. I dare say that the eyeshadows are true to color.

You get the burgundy that is so very on-trend right now. And a glittery steel grey, another one of my favourite shades to wear. The taupe, gold and pale pink are very versatile, and would work for day or night.

Color swatches under natural lighting

They swatches beautifully and the shades are amazing. I was very impressed with the pigmentation given it’s only $3.00. I love that there are a few nudes/neutrals for daytime, in various textures and tons of shimmery shadows that aren’t black. The bright maroon and bright gold are the two unusual colour pops. The color selections are amazing and the textures soft and smooth. I really really like this palette.

Here are the color swatches on bare arm without primer or eye makeup base on closed up picture. What you see is what you get. Impressive, don’t you think?

eye makeup look look 2 look 4 look 5

I have so much fun playing with all the shades in this palette that I want to share some of the eye makeup look with all of you. Tell me what you think in the comment section. I’d love to know what you think.

PicMonkey Collage

I was excited to share a few of the eye makeup look with only using this Metallic Chic palette. So yay for that!

Overall, this is an amazing palette considering the low price. I’ll certainly repurchase and planning to pick the other color palettes the next time. This palette won’t cost an arm or leg, don’t wait till Christmas, this great value and quality products goes out fast. You’d love this! Available at Dollar stores and on ebay.

Hope you find this post helpful. Until next one, stay beautiful! ❤

Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

Maybelline The Brights Palette

the brights eyeshadow plaette

For those of you who aren’t subscribed to my blog yet I posted a post review previously of the Maybelline The Blushed Nudes palette. That particular palette is available in all drugstore stores. The original Nudes palette from Maybelline got very mixed reviews on YouTube, some people loved it, some people hated it. I personally thought it was fine, quite amazing frankly for been the first drugstore coming out with a palette format eyeshadow.

I also own the Brights palette which I’m going to talk about with you today. I’ve been lusting after the Brights since I saw it a long while ago. But instead, I grabbed the Blushed Nudes the second I saw it was available at the drugstore. Anyways, it’s better late than never right!

Adrenaline is running high and I’m so thrilled to share with you guys,

But in this post, we’re going to dig deeper into Maybelline Brights Eyeshadow Palette. The regular price is around $12.00 -15.00 and I got mine for about half the price. Yup, $7.99 from the original price tag of $15.00 at Winners. Incredible price don’t you think? I don’t have to hesitate with this purchase. The colors really appeal to me that make me bought it in a heartbeat.

The Brights by Maybelline New York

Top row from Left to Right: Shade 1 is a shimmery white. Shade 2 is a shimmery light pink, Shade 3 is shimmery taupe. Shade 4 is a shimmery lime green. Shade 5 is a shimmery gold and Shade 6 is a satin dark pink.

Bottom row from Left to Right: Shade 7 is a matte deep purple. Shade 8 is a matte black. Shade 9 is a satin medium cobalt blue. Shade 10 is a shimmery peach. Shade 11 a satin finish dark brown and lastly Shade 12 is a shimmery light blue. This is my most favorite quad 5, 6, 11 and 12!

The packaging is a beautiful black plastic casing with a clear window on the top that lets you see the shades inside. Exactly the same layout and design as the other palettes in Maybelline’s range.

Inside are 12 stunning shades that are overall more pigmented and blendable than the ones in the original palette. The plastic packaging is a bit flimsy and looks somewhat cheap but this is a drugstore palette and we’re not paying for packaging. We’re paying for pretty eyeshadows. But having said that, it’s a travel-friendly palette.

The instructions on the back of the palette give some guidance on how to make the most of the palette, which is really useful for eye makeup beginners. There are quads, trios and duos eye makeup guide that I find them fascinating but I find that the original Nudes has better color combination.

Color Swatches – Top Row

Though this palette is called “The Brights” the shades are actually quite muted. This is a very good option for people who would like to incorporate colors in their eye makeup, but do not want to go too bright. The finish varies across the colors. It’s a mix of matte, satin and shimmer finishes.

Color Swatches – Bottom Row

I’m showing you that with one swatch from the pan, you can see the lack of pigmentations immediately on my fingers. Bear in mind that I do not use primer or eye base when doing color swatches. Basically what you see is what you get.

color swatches the brights

Most of the shades are soft and have a creamy feel to them. But the two matte shades – Purple and Black (shades 7 and 8) are very dry and chalky.  I feel that they’re very patchy and difficult to work with.

Overall, I noticed that a few of the shades are less pigmented and the Purple and Black for been dry and patchy. There are a few misses but overall it’s a decent palette and I like it more than I thought I would. It has some pretty muted shades that you can wear for everyday use. I still think it’s worth a try.

Don’t forget to tune in, on my next post where I’ll share several different color eye makeup looks with this “The Bright” Eyeshadow Palette.

If you have this palette, or want to buy it, let me know your thoughts! Also, I’d love to hear what you think of Maybelline‘s palettes in general in the comment section.

Thanks so much for reading.

Dupe or Dud|Eyeshadow Palettes

Finding dupes for products you love is the best way to save money. No doubt the process could be challenging and time consuming but here’s where I come in. Recently, I just found a product which could be a dupe or dud and I’ll explain it further down in this post. I’m excited so let’s jump right in ….

NK3 vs

I’m using these two palettes as you can on the picture above to compare if The Blushed Nudes by Maybelline is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Palette 3. Well, you may know that Maybelline has recently launched a few of the larger 12 pan palette which makes so many of us excited, right and The Blushed Nudes was the new palette on the block.

Well, I have another palette from Maybelline which is the original The Nudes Palette of which I put a full review in the link here. It’s a neutral shade eyeshadows with a mixed of warm and cool and matte and some shimmery which I don’t think they’re trying to dupe any Naked 1 or 2 palette but when I saw The Blushed Nudes at Walmart I can see the resemblance of it with Naked 3 palette. I put a flash picture up beside each other as you can see on the picture above.

naked palette 3

Here you can see that it’s not only that they have the same color to tee but it looks like the colors are in the same order.

NK3 eyeshadow palette

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette shadows are very creamy pigmented and the shades are gorgeous. There are three matte shadows and nine with shimmery finish. This Naked 3 has seemingly the most cool pink color shades in one palette followed by Taupe.

UD Naked 3 color swatches

Here are the color swatches right out from the pan. Awesome shades from Naked 3 Palette, right?

The blushed Nudes palette

I noticed that the Blushed Nudes has a decent pigmentation on the darker shades but the lighter shades doesn’t seems to show up on my light-medium skin tone. I really really want to love this palette but I could only use half of this palette. On the other hand, I can wear all the eyeshadows on my Naked 3 palette.

maybelline eyeshadow palette

Inside look of The Blushed Nudes 12 pans palette by Maybelline.

The Blushed Nudes Palette is a nice palette if you love shimmery and satin finish but sadly it has only one matte color in Mauve (5th shade on the top row swatched) which I’m a little disappointed for it’s so light that the color doesn’t even show up on these color swatches above and bottom pictures.

nk3 vs blushed nudes

For this purpose, I primed my arm which I don’t usually do on normal swatches for a better view. The top row is the Naked 3 Palette and the bottom row is The Blushed Nudes. Naked 3 has a wider range of pinkish tones and the pigmentations are right off the bat richer. The texture was so much creamier and smoother than the other palette.

Naked 3
Naked 3
The Blushed Nudes
The Blushed Nudes

As far as outlast and out wear, I feel that both of these palettes are quite compatible worn with eye base, In terms of price, there is a huge difference but when comparing quality, I still reach for my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette simply because the shades are more versatile and it’s rich in pigmentation which The Blushed Nudes lacks on some of the shadows. So, Urban Decay is still the winner in my book. I’m not saying that it’s a bad palette. For a drugstore brand and affordable price with decent quality, I think it’s on point to cater for different market group considering L’oreal owns Urban Decay and Maybelline. This is a no brainer for beauty fanatics on a budget, right?

There may not be dupes for every single shade in the Naked 3 palette here, but there are shimmers and mattes in the Blushed Nudes palette that very closely resemble shades in the Naked 3 palette. And you know what? That’s good enough for me when I’m on a budget buy!

Whew. I think that about covers it..for now! Any questions about anything mentioned above, just let me know on the comment section below.

Do you think it’s a dupe or dud?

Thank you as usual for taking the time to read.

Drugstore Madness Wednesday|Quo Back To Basics Eyeshadow Palette

Quo Back to basics palette

I’m an eyeshadow palette junkies, and I’m not going to hide it. I got to admit that I’m super obsessed with eyeshadow palettes.

So, today, I’ll be sharing with you another new brand which caught my eyes at Shoppers Drug Mart ( Canadian drugstore). I love this palette! It was re-released again this year as part of the Quo Holiday 2013 collection and I bought mine like just recently. Regular price was $25.00 but I got this for a special discount. Uh huh! I paid $15.00 only for this bad boy! I’m grinning from ear to ear 😀  Absolutely love, love the price but let’s get down to business … inside the palette, whahaha!

qua eyeshadow palette

This Quo Back to Basics Eyeshadow Palette contains 12 gradient eyeshadow shades including light, neutral and darker, smokey shades along with a full-size eyeshadow brush. Does this palette reminds you of any high end ones? I’ll review the answer below for this palette could be a dupe. Continue reading …

The packaging is of cardboard material but sturdy. I like the pattern on this year’s palette better, still gold, still beautiful but not too busy and more elegant. It also has a magnetic closure with a decent size mirror inside. Net wet: 12 x 1g = 12g. It has a clear plastic film placed on top of the eyeshadows, taped down on three sides. This will help avoid testing/ contamination, which is always a plus.

the brush

The brush fluffy, thicker and soft. It works well for packing on eyeshadows. Black handle, with gold ferule. A small detail but I think Quo should put its brand logo on the handles of these brushes, making them look more professional and with brush numbers. That would be cool!!!

quo palette

The shadows are lovely and pigmented, and are also pretty and wearable shades that would suit everyone. The shades are so wearable or versatile.

UD vs Qua palettes

I honestly love it! Its very similar to the Urban Decay Naked palette, but half the price. It features very similar colors as the Naked Palette. The Quo shadows have a great texture. They wear very well and blend nicely. All of the shadows have great pigmentation, especially the darker shadows.

UD naked palettenaked palette by UD

Since I’ve my beloved Urban Decay Naked |Palette, |I’m going to show you the comparison between these two palettes and I’ll tell you if this Quo could be a dupe for the Naked |Palette at the end of this post.

Above is the Urban Decay Naked Palette with the color swatches on my bare hand. That’s right, not on any primer just naked. What you see is what you get! It’s my most favorite eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay.

Naked vs Quo

Thought you guys want to know how close it is to Urban Decay Naked palette, so let’s get to it.

Here they are, Naked on the top and Back to Basics on the bottom. First glance, they are very close except for Toasted (fourth shade in from the right) looking a little lighter than the shade from Quo. The size of both palettes and colors are so closely similar. The order of the shadow placements in the palette and even the shadow brush. Whoa! Too much insanity here, right now! But you still haven’t seen the color swatches yet. Scroll down below.

Oh yeah! Now what do you think? Can you spot the difference?

light shades palette

I don’t know about you but I can’t tell them apart except at closed-up or on swatches. Even though I know that Quo makes good eyeshadows but I am still impressed to see how smooth these applied and how similar they are to their Naked counterparts.

darker shade palette

The texture of this Quo is freaking amazing. It’s buttery soft and so smooth. Blends so ell and live the soft shimmery finish. It has 4 matte shades in this palette which is pretty awesome!

color satches comparison

Here are the color swatches on bare arm as usual. Amazing pigmentation on both palettes. I did not experience any chalky texture or fallout from either palette. OMG! I got so giddy while swatching, I couldn’t stop smiling. I love Quo!

light shades swatches

Lighter shades comparison and the darker 6 down below. The lighter shades you could definitely use them as highlighter or on your inner corner wherelse the darker shades are more my go to colors for nude, dramatic and smokey eyes.

darker shades swatches

As suspected, Toasted UD swatched (on the left) has a darker bronze while the Quo shade showed up as a lighter bronze. The other three follow most of the pairs compared above: dupes head on! In fact, I think the Quo shade that is paired with Gunmetal might actually more pigmented.

ud nakedquo eyeshadow look

You can easily create casual looks , as well as beautiful soft cut crease. The top picture I’m wearing the Urban Decay Naked Palette and the one below is Quo Back To Basics Palette. Can you spot any difference whether it’s a high end product or a drugstore brand?

I would absolutely recommend this palette to anyone! It’s a great value , and an overall great product. Note that the palette is Limited Edition, as part of the holiday collection which you can still find some at some local Shoppers Drug Mart. Head over there today and grab this while it lasts.

This palette is good for beginners or for collectors considering the price of $25.00 compared to Urban Decay which is $60.00. And, it’s not a must have if you already have Naked Palette. Let’s just say this is a budget friendly alternative 🙂

I love to hear what you think of this palette if you have tried them before and share your comments down below.

Thank you for taking your time to read. Truly appreciate it.

Maybelline The Nudes vs L.A. Colors Palette

Hey gorgeous,

Have you heard that L.A. Colors are going to be a permanent brand at Target? I thought so. Anyways for those of you who haven’t heard or know L.A. Colors, you will be seeing  them on the shelves pretty soon. First of all, the price is of the makeup is dirt cheap.

On the other side of the spectrum is this Maybelline drugstore brand which if I’m not mistaken came out with a twelve eyeshadow palette to replicate the high end brand such as the Naked Palette by Urban Decay.

In this post, I’m just going to compare a drugstore brand with a new wannabe drugstore makeup just to have a fairer comparison.

maybelline vs l.a. colors

When I first started blogging, I heard that the Nudes is a dupes for UD and I picked it up and love it ever since. But even now that I have all the Naked Palettes I will still continue wearing The Nudes every now and then.

So sorry, I have gone tangent but anyways, let’s start the comparison with The Nudes by Maybelline and Traditional L.A. Colors eyeshadow palettes. Both are of neutral shades and each has 12 eyeshadow pans and the size of each pan is similar or the same size.

So, let’s go right to it:-

Intro: I paid $14.99 for The Nudes at my local drugstore and $1.25 for Traditional at the dollar store.

he nudes by maybelline

The packaging for this Maybelline palette is stable and solid. It gives the impression of a better made and an expensive kind of look for a drugstore brand which I find it impressive. Behind this black plastic palette is an eye makeup guide for beginners which you may find it helpful sometimes.

It comes with a dual eyeshadow brush which I have no use of it.

This neutral palette is amazing having six mattes and six shimmer shades that is richly pigmented and soft. There are four shades which are very creamy while the other are a little stiff but highly pigmented. I don’t see any powdery talc in this palette.

maybelline the nudes

I love the appearance of this neutral look from this Nude eyeshadow palette. It makes doing an everyday eye makeup look- hassle free.

The formula is long lasting and there are other shades that will perform even better with eye primers while some such as the shimmer bronze can go without. This is definitely a nice travel palette to bring for vacation and just don’t forget o bring your primer along.

For this look, I’m using the middle quad shadows. It gives a soft and natural shimmery finish which is quite subtle.

All the color swatches turns out beautifully . I love all the shades in this palette even the charcoal. Is this a dupes for Urban Decay Naked Palette? Well, I will have to say there is no true dupes on the shades (I tested on the half-baked, hustle and smog from Urban Decay Naked 1 palette) with the three obvious shades from The Nude but it does provide the same feel no doubt.

Also available are The Smokes and The Bright eyeshadow palettes which in my opinion are something I will definitely pick for stash.

l.a. colors eyeshadows

Okay, let’s face it. The packaging of this L.A. Colors palette is less than attractive. It does gives the impression that this palette costs $1.25 only.  But let me tell you something, I was in that position when I first saw it. I’m like there is no way I’m going to put that eyeshadow on me but boy was I wrong. The packaging is quite deceiving. For $1.25 eyeshadow palette with 12 shades in my opinion is really something else. Makes me think how low the cost of makeup really is.

Average pigmentation but incredible shades when applied on lids. It blends well and no flake or fall out which I’m amazed. It has very pretty shades that are wearable for everyday look. This is not the best palette but a reasonable and super affordable eyeshadow where you can play with the shades at will. I want to think of it as a disposable palette where if I go travelling and leave it behind I’ll be okay with it.

l.a. colors eye look

This eye makeup look is applied on bare skin (without primer). The finishing looks a little powdery but no it’s matte finish and the truth being said, it stays on all day. The eyeshadow still looking good without needing for touch-up. I’m satisfied with both the appearance and the results. Moreover, the price is just unbelievingly low.

Overall, I think this would be a wonderful palette for someone who is just starting their makeup journey, or perhaps does not own many eyeshadows or hasn’t experimented with nude shades before. For that price, it worth trying out and who knows. one day L.A. Colors might step up to its plate afterall. I would love to see an improved packaging and higher pigmentation with creamier formula but keeping the price as low as possible. I see that this brand has potential and if you happen to see one at your local Target, pick one and experience them yourselves. You’ll be surprised. All L.A. Colors makeup products costs less than $3.00.

My verdict: So which one is the winner? Well, I’ll have to say both are winners. Maybelline for its continuously stepping up to par with the quality and performance while L.A Colors for their effort to bring their products to be a permanent makeup brand is more than impressive. With their super low prices, many will get the chance to look pretty too. An infant brand that needs nurturing.

As for Maybelline, they have already make their mark and I’m very happy to find an affordable palette that can feed my eyeshadow palette obsessions.

Have you seen L.A. Colors at your local Target yet? Or have you The Nudes by Maybelline? Please leave comment and share your experience below. I love to hear from you.
