Hard Candy Fierce Effects Lipsticks – Review & Swatches

Story about Hard Candy: I started to be a fan of this brand for more than a year plus and have always like to check their new collection lines whenever I’m at Walmart.I noticed that, in the recent years, the brand definitely seems to be making a comeback with its daring and affordable color makeup.

Today I want to share with you some unique lipstick shades from Hard Candy’s Fierce Effects Lipsticks Collection.

Available in 16 fiercely color exclusively at Walmart only for CAD$5.98 a tube.

The Fierce Effects Lipsticks packaging come in simple black lipstick tubes with a very pretty silver-studded cap. The top of the cap has a color window that matches the shade of the lipstick inside. That’s so cool right, I also like the name of the lipstick printed on the label, Yay!

First shade I have here is NUDIST in neutral nude color-toned. Nice color which is not crazily fierce than the other two shades I picked.

You can see that once uncapped, though, the lipsticks don’t look great; the actual bullets are poorly formed and they just seem roughly-made. The formula feels soft which I suspect causing the bullet to look flimsy. Frankly, I expected a better made lipstick period.

Despite the not too impressive formulation, the packaging of these is pretty great. It gives a pretty sheen and translucent yet vibrant finishes as seen on both the color swatches below.

1066 – Nudist – is a dusty rose metallic, another fantastic shade and my personal favorite out of the bunch.

When I wear it on my lips, it feels moisturized and quite comfortable actually. The downside of this lipstick that I can immediately point it out is the smudge and transfer-prone wear due to the super slick and almost wet finish product.

1053 – Thunder – is an eggplant purple,  this one is kind of sheer but build-able to a nice and even coverage.

1066 – Night Queen – is beautiful blue,  this one that has a nice translucent sheer finish but build-able.

Which color lipsticks would you want to rock this summer? Leave your comments below.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read. Hope to see you on the next one!

Have a great day everyone!

This & That Tag

this and hat tag

I came across a beauty blogger who posted This & That tag and since it looks so fun, I’ve excited to do this especially on a dull day like today.

Blush or bronzer?

Blush. I prefer blush more than bronzer coz’ it’s easier to apply.

Lip gloss or lipstick?

Lipstick. I’m a big fan of lipstick and lip gloss when in a hurry or the dry season.

Eyeliner or mascara?

Eyeliner! I’m scare coz’ some mascara can rain on me? ;'(

Foundation or concealer?

Concealer. Must hide my dark panda eyes, yikes!!!

Neutral or colour eyeshadow?

Neutral is beautiful! Colour eyeshadow is my sidekick.

Pressed or loose eyeshadow?

Pressed. I tried wearing loose eyeshadow but I figured out that it was too messy for me.

Brushes or sponges?

Brushes. I don’t mind using my figures to apply makeup that is liquid-y like concealer, foundation etc…

OPI or China Glaze?

OPI is my go to! I’m not really a nail person but I have OPI collection the most.

Long or short?

I’m not good at keeping long nails, so short is easier to upkeep!

Acrylic or natural?

Brights or darks?

Darks or anything in between.

Perfume or body splash?

Perfume, again I’m all about perfume or eau de toilette. Body splash once awhile.

Lotion or body butter?

Lotion. I love the smooth and soft texture of lotion on my skin not to mention the amazing scents.

Body wash or soap?

Body wash. I can’t remember the last time I used soap. Probably after I realized that there is an alternative to soap!

Lush or other bath company?

Actually sweater with hoodie for indoor and jacket for outdoor.

Straight. I already have straight hair and I’m quite happy with it.

Bobby pins or butterfly clips?

Butterfly clips! One clip is all I need. Yay!!!

Hair spray or gel?

Neither. Natural for healthy looking hair.

Long or short?

Short. Less time to dry and so much easier to maintain. When I had my long hair, all I did was tied them up in a bun or ponytail all the time.

Light or dark?

Brunette actually. I have black hair and I would love to have a lighter hair like brunette.

Side sweep bangs or full bangs?

Side sweep bangs, but I’ve grown them already. I may look like Cleopatra (hair gone wrong) when in full bangs 😛

7 Basic Beauty Guidelines You Must Know

Hey guys!

I’m back again with some of the basic tips which I have gathered and experienced over time and taught what better time than now to share it with you guys. I bet many of you might have encounter or aware of these beauty guides, but I’m just going to talk about it here in my post since I find it relevant to us on a daily basis.

1. Expensive doesn’t always means better!

There are good and bad products in all price categories and there are some amazing inexpensive products you should really consider before going for the expensive stuff. Just like the idiom, a coin has two sides.

two side coin

2. Remember to check foundations, concealer and powder colors in natural light

Drugstore or retail store outlets lighting is deceiving, what seems perfect under artificial light can look disastrous in broad daylight.  Ideally, try to pick by bringing the product nearer to the window where there are natural lights. Oh yes! do a color swatch on your jawline closer to the ears than on the hand since the color on the face and hand doesn’t always match.

natural light

3. Be extra caution with shiny blush or eyeshadow

Okay, fine some of us love shiny makeup but let’s keep in down for evening or special occasion. It is recommended that a blush with a matte finish or a hint of sheen works best for daytime makeup.

4. Never to test mascara or eyeliner in the store

Many of us are tempted to try on the testers provided at a makeup counter and a note of precaution. Try to avoid using the tester since you never know how many people have double-dipped or how old the testers are. We don’t know how contaminated they may be. I know it’s a pain, but for the health of our eyes and due to hygienic purposes it’s best to purchase these products and test them at home.

5. Sanitize lipstick with alcohol based spray before testing

If you are like me, wanting to test almost all the colors on the testers then one advise is to ask the salesperson to either shave off the top portion of the lipstick with a disposable spatula before testing them. Cannot spray and cannot shave, then wipe off several layers of lipstick with a clean tissue. I usually test them on my hand instead of on my lips and same goes for the lip gloss. I don’t want to get any gems and neither do I want to give my gems to the other person.

6. Saw a cosmetic artist whose makeup you admire? Ask them for application tips!

Especially if their skin tone is similar to yours. It would be much easier for you to pick up great tips and begin to feel more confident about choosing the best colors for you. You’ll be surprised to see how helpful some are.

7. Don’t be afraid to return a makeup product, even if you have used it.

Almost all drugstores and mass market stores like Walmart will provide complete refund on makeup purchases if you have the receipts even if the product has been used. Target store no longer issue refunds once items has been opened or used.

These are some recommended or suggested guidelines only and you are free to choose whichever tip you like. Hope this helps.

Do you have tips that you like to share? I love to hear your comments.

Thank you for reading.

Flawless BB Cream by Body Shop

Tea Tree BB Cream  body shop bb cream

The Body Shop ~ Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream  in Dark shades

Today, seems like a good day for me to share some information on what I read about BB cream. The trend seems to have started from Korea in 1990’s but was founded some 50 years ago by a German Doctor for the sole purpose of covering scars. From my understanding BB cream was recommended by dermatologist to cover the scars and help heal the skin. But I guess it went saturated and so we have all the creams from A-E.

BB cream was one of the hottest trends in the beauty industry last year and it doesn’t seems to stop there. Clearly catching onto the alphabetization theme, then came CC cream, even DD cream and now EE cream which were just launched by Estee Lauder recently. That was  the newest EE cream = Enlighten Eye effect skin tone corrector SPF30. So, all these creams have become popular simply because the demand was there.

I am also among the people who are using BB cream in order to get a quick fix on my face before putting up makeup.

Tea TRee BB Cream texture bb cream by body shop BB cream swatch

The BB cream formula and color swatch. 3 available shades of Light, Medium & Dark

Are you wondering what my favorite BB cream is? First of all, it’s important to analyse my skin tone type and preference on choosing my BB cream which might be different from yours. I have dry skin and so I will prefer to choose a dewy finish with natural coverage and light texture. I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing it at all.

Finding a right BB cream can be a challenge. It has to fit just right. I have tried many BB creams and finally I found my true love with this Tea Tree Flawless BB cream by The Body Shop. It hits all the criteria I mentioned and I love wearing it.

The formula has a darker tint but when I apply and blend them in, the color just don’t looked so dark on skin. Last time I check, my face and neck has the same color tone (photo below). Yay!!!  True that it doesn’t have full coverage but I’m fine with it as long as it covers some of my uneven skin and that it gives a dewy finish.

The texture is a little bit more liquid-y than the Korean BB cream which are much thicker.  As for this Tea Tree BB cream I can feel the cooling and relaxing effect from this amazing cream. Also the smells are just so wonderful.

As for the price, I paid $15.00 for it and with the special offer of Buy 3, Get 2 Free promotion at the Body Shop, it’s a good bargain.

So, overall I like this Flawless BB cream very much and will continue to wear it and planning to get a lighter shade for winter since my color tone changes and also to catch the promotion while it lasts.

What is your favorite BB cream you are wearing?

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Beauty Haul – Makeup Haul!

Happy Friday Beauty friends! It’s Friday and it’s time for Beauty Haul! Yay!!!

This week, I’ll be sharing with you guys some of these makeup haul which caught my eyes when I was at Winners (Canadian Retail Chain Stores).Well, this may be my may impetuous buy but I’m happy that I got them. I’m obsessed with makeup and so I have to get them. Once I have tried them thoroughly I’ll give my thoughts to share them with all of you. But for now, I’m just as thrilled to just post them up.

winners beauty haul

Here are some of my beauty makeup haul.  So, let’s start. I have here the …

bourjois eyeliner pencil khol bourjois lipstick

Bourjois Khol & Contour eyeliner (16h) in 79 Bronze Raffine (wt: 0.04 oz). It says to be enriched with pure pigments and allows for an intense results lasting up to 16 hours. Its soft and blendable formula is ideal to apply both on the inner and outer rims of the eye. Had been tested on sensitive and contact lens wearers. I picked up this bronze color which is perfect for autumn eye makeup. It’s also waterproof so no worries about freaking out.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick. It says to keep perfected pout hydrated for 10 hours. Does it include eating and drinking time?  Ok, I always wanted to have a collection of Bourjois’s makeup line and once I spotted it, I can’t resist the temptation to get it. I always love red but this fuchsia seems to speak to me and well with the price I have to get it because it’s Bourjois! On color swatch it has  rich pigments and pretty creamy finish. I’m not sure when I will wear this color but I’ll make a review to share.

cake lipbutter balm maybelline age rewind powder

Cake Kiss Me Lip Butter Balm. This I bought because of the cute tube packaging. Furthermore,  it’s a limited edition and also I’ll be needing lots of lip balm when the weather gets dryer here. I love to collect limited edition makeup’s too.

Next is the Maybelline Age Rewind “The Perfector- Primer Inside” pressed powder. The white swirl is mixed into the compact to infer the primer inside. Although powder is usually applied after primer , concealer or foundation. It says no caking, no settling. Provide a touch of radiance for a younger looking skin instantly.

I picked this in light/pale. My bad bet, I didn’t see the shades after been drawn with this swirl thingy (giggling!!!). Anyways, this shade is definitely too pale for me. I usually get light to medium shades or just medium. I’ll probably return it or mixed with darker powder. I haven’t decided yet and yes I read some good reviews on this though. Urghh!!! What to do???

revlon lip gloss stila eyeshadow

Revlon ColorBurst Lip gloss has amazing colors and shine that make lips pop. It’s said to be 5x more shine than patent leather. I picked up this lip gloss in Embellished, it’s like dark violet/plum color and I like the fact that it’s not sticky. Seems to have glittery formula in it.

Stila Countless Color Pigments Eye shadow in Encore (wt: 0.1 oz). Below are the claims by Stila

Features & Benefits:

  • Endless color combinations in each pan
  • No two Countless Color Pigments are alike
  • Full coverage, pearl formula
  • Long-wearing
  • Vibrant, color-matched compact

stila eyeshadow safari

Last but not least is this Stila Stay All Day-wet to set eye shadow trio in Safari (wt: 0.15 oz). I paid $12.99 for it. Here is a preview of the stay all day shadow. It’s a 3D velvety shadow which are unique, it gives a luxe finish on lids when combined with water. Stila promises an all day wear that’s crease-proof. I like the looks of these a lot so I’d be curious about trying one or two shades.

This ends this week’s beauty haul and I’ll be bring in more hauls next Friday.

So, until then, Stay beautiful and thank you for stopping by.

When was the last time you had an impulsive buy makeup? Leave comment below to share.
